The chair of UNESCO together with the Britain-Kazakhstan Institute of illumination of war and world had been participating in carrying out the European week against racism, fascism, terror and violence from the 17th of March till the 25th of March 2001.

The chair of UNESCO organised the first inter-university student's scientific - practical conference "Journalism in the XXI century " on the 21st of March 2001. The students of KazNU have become prize-winners of the conference, have received certificates and memorable prizes: Е. Dzhetpisbaeva (II course) - 1st place, B. Nurumov (I course) - 3rd place.

The day of " Open doors " was held at the faculty of journalism on the 27th of March, 2001 - Acquaintance of the schoolchildren from different areas of Kazakhstan to a trade -the future Kazakh National University entrants of the faculty of journalism. There were young correspondents, schoolchildren from Ekibastus, Temirtau, Semipalatinsk, Pavlodara, Ust-Kamenogorska, Almaty at the meeting.

The chair of UNESCCO with support of UNESCO Representative in Kazakhstan carried out the scientific - practical seminar " Mass Media of Kazakhstan: freedom of access to information " on the 3rd of May 2001. The seminar was devoted to the World day of freedom of press, with participation of the leading journalists, press-club of Kazakhstan, Association of independent electronic Mass Media in Central Asia, head editors of the newspapers, magazines, TV and Radio-companies.

In May, 2001 the chair of UNESCO won the ATP internet-grant (USA) on holding a conference " Mass communications of Kazakhstan in the XXI century: realities and forecast of development " and further publication of the Web-edition of materials of the conference in Internet to the address www.conf.freenet.kz. This international conference was held on the 15th of June 2001. On results of the conference the brochure under the same name was issued.



From the 8th of June till the 10th of June 10, 2001 the chair of UNESCO had been taking part in the III International festival of Mass Media for children and youth - " The Southern capital by eyes of young " in Astana. About 200 young journalists took part in the festival from all areas of Kazakhstan and also Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The chief of the chair of UNESCO - S. Barlybaeva conducted 3 master - classes for the participants and was the member of jury.

From the 20th June till the 30th of June, 2001 the chair of UNESCO, the computer centre of KazNU and scientific library of KazNU with support and participation of IREX - International Council on Researches and Exchanges and IATP-program (USA) had been leading "Summer Internet-camp " for the students of KazNU. More than 100 students of 9 faculties of KazNU have took part in it.

The lecturer М. Leonov (IREX) held The open lecture " New Information technologies and Mass Media” for the students of faculty of journalism on the 17th September 2001.

The presentation of American educational grants was held with participation of the managers of ACCELS and IREX on the 8th of October, 2001 .

The was the meeting with the professor on mass communications from Southern Korea - Daexo Kim on chair of UNESCO on the 19th of October, 2001.
The Internet-training on Internet-communication for the teachers and students of faculty of journalism of KazNU had been taking place from the 26th November till the 30th November 2001, the Internet-trainer-S. Milov (IREX).
